Toronto, Canada – March 25, 2026 — Today, CarbonOne released new industry insights generated from its recently released Agri-Food Carbon Benchmarking Index , analyzing emissions data from more than 800 food and beverage companies globally. The data shows emissions intensity can vary by as much as 5–10× between companies of similar size operating within the same category, highlighting substantial performance gaps across the industry.
The Index is built on emissions disclosures from sustainability reports, ESG filings, and regulatory data across the global food industry, which are structured, standardized, and analyzed through CarbonOne’s carbon intelligence platform to enable consistent, comparable benchmarking across complex agri-food supply chains.
Key Findings Insights generated through the Agri-Food Carbon Benchmarking Index identified several notable patterns:
Companies producing similar products can have 5–10× differences in emissions. Even within the same category and at a similar scale, emissions vary significantly, driven by operational practices, sourcing strategies, and data quality.Carbon performance is increasingly a proxy for operational efficiency. Differences in emissions between similar companies often point to variations in production efficiency, procurement strategies, and supply chain design.Emissions intensity can vary by 60×+ across categories. Product mix, including agricultural inputs, ingredients, and packaging, is a primary driver. This reinforces the need for category-specific benchmarking. These findings highlight a growing challenge for sustainability teams across the food industry. While many companies have begun measuring emissions, relatively few have reliable benchmarks to understand how their performance compares within their category or across the broader market.
To help companies act on these insights, CarbonOne has made this data accessible through the Agri-Food Carbon Benchmarking Index , an interactive platform that enables food and beverage companies to benchmark their emissions performance against an industry dataset.
Using a small set of inputs, including revenue, employee count, and emissions data, companies can generate benchmarking insights within minutes, including emissions intensity comparisons, percentile rankings, and category-level benchmarks to inform decision-making and decarbonization strategy.
“Many food and beverage companies are gaining visibility into their carbon footprint, but lack context for evaluating performance,” said Brett Wills, Founder and CEO of CarbonOne. “Benchmarking helps organizations understand where they stand relative to peers and where the most meaningful opportunities for improvement exist.”
The dataset currently includes more than 800 companies across 9 agri-food categories, including dairy, meat & protein, bakery, grains & dry foods, beverages, and prepared foods. CarbonOne expects this to expand rapidly to over 2,000 companies in the coming months as additional disclosures are incorporated.
Companies can access the Index online and run a free benchmark preview in minutes before unlocking full benchmarking insights.

About CarbonOne CarbonOne is a climate technology company focused on helping food and beverage companies measure, benchmark, report, and reduce carbon emissions across complex agri-food supply chains.
The CarbonOne platform supports greenhouse gas accounting across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, enabling companies to measure emissions across operations, supply chains, and products. It includes capabilities for Product Carbon Footprinting (PCFs), supplier emissions data collection, and benchmarking tools that help organizations identify decarbonization opportunities and track progress over time.
CarbonOne also enables direct measurement of emissions within agricultural supply chains through its farm emissions module, supporting both crop and livestock operations. By connecting farm-level data through to finished products, CarbonOne provides a complete view of carbon impacts across the agri-food value chain.
